The Ridgway Poll Merino Stud is run by Ric and Gail Ridgway at Kulkami in South Australia’s Murray Mallee. Kulkami is 32kms north-west of Lameroo, 40kms east of Karoonda and approximately 50kms west of the Victorian border.
Our soils are predominately light and sandy and we receive an average rainfall of 350mms. This is a dry and relatively harsh environment, but it is also good healthy sheep country with fewer problems from parasites and other health and husbandry issues usually associated with wetter districts.
We have always been a family run business. Ric’s parents, John and Jenny first settled at Kulkami in 1966, clearing the Mallee scrub and making a living through sheep and wool production, plus some cereal grains.
Ridgway is now a total Merino sheep enterprise with crops of barley; oats and rye grown for supplementary grain and hay needed to fulfill sheep nutritional needs all year round; and also as cover crops in pasture improvement programs.
