R1137 Performs Well

We have received encouraging feedback from many studs who used our top 2010 Classings Ram R1137. Expect to see some elite progeny from him at field days and sales both in S.A. and Interstate this year.

R1137 was our best performing sire in 2011. His progeny display all his best attributes - square, deep bodied and heavy boned and well covered with long stapled, crimpy wool on uncomplicated free skins.

Ridgway Tops Classings Classic 2011 - $32,000

A 16-month-old Poll Merino ram from the Ridgway stud at Lameroo blitzed the in-form field at the annual Classings Classic ram sale at the Murray Bridge Racecourse, topping the sale at $32,000. It eclipsed Ric and Gail Ridgway's previous best price of $25,000 last year and was the second highest price ram sold at the Classings Classic sale in its 10-year history.

Annual On-Property Ram Sale Report

Ric and Gail Ridgway and family were ecstatic and had many reasons to celebrate after their annual Poll Merino ram sale on Monday.

119 of the 120 main auction rams sold to $3500 and averaged $1754 while 26 of 42 mini auction rams sold to $1000 and averaged $588. The only ram not to clear in the main auction was a replacement from Ridgway’s stud reserves that did not meet the reserve price put on him.

Ridgway Ram Performs Well In Independent Dual Purpose Trial

The trial was conducted by the SARDI Livestock Breeding and Genetics Group on their Turretfield property. 265 ewes were randomly allocated to either 2 AI sires (50 each) or 4 Turretfield duel purpose rams (39-45 each).

The rams were selected by independent classer Paul Cousins for their "dual purpose" attributed. The Ridgway ram, R692 was purchased by Mark Hull, Minta Stud at the Classings Classic 2008 sale and was one of the two AI sires used. The other AI sire was the high profile Collinsville ram Majestic (Collinsville 071080) purchased by the Sherlock stud.
